If you have read Discover True North and would like to share your experiences and this book with others, you may want to consider starting a self-development opportunity of your own. One way to do this is to put together a Discover True North Expedition Group. The purpose of starting such a group is to enjoy the exploration process and get pleasure and support from others who are on similar paths and who share similar interests. Watch how this book will serve as a valuable catalyst for thoughtful questions and ongoing meaningful dialogue.
If you are interested in putting together a group of people to further enhance your journey and the journey of others to True North, here are some suggestions for getting started. 1. Invite Like-Minded People To Join You For example, enlist people who meet the following criteria: 1) they are deeply interested in exploring the subject matter in this book; 2) you feel comfortable talking openly and honestly with them; 3) they will agree to meet on a regular basis, 3) they are willing to read the book and do the exercises, and 4) they are people who are willing to contribute ideas and honest input—people who are comfortable with interactive exercises and meaningful discussion. 2. Facilitating The Group • Have at least four participants to get started. • Designate a leader or facilitator for each meeting to help the flow of discussion and to introduce new ideas. • Select a specific topic or assignment for each meeting ahead of time and distribute by email to all attendees. • Use the weekly sessions from this book and especially the exercises to focus your discussions and growth. • Set up an initial period of time that you would like people to commit to the process: twice a month, once a week for two months, once a month for six months, etc. • Meet for a designated length of time: one hour, two hours, etc. • Decide if sessions should be held at breakfast, lunch, after work, dinner, weekends, or other specified times. • Allow the group to evolve to what works best in terms of format, pace and focus. • Discuss ground rules for group members, such as: no one tells someone what they should do, although suggestions are welcome, or everyone’s privacy will be respected and kept confidential.
